Anyway, regarding the topic of LTSpice on Mac: that LT/Analog had to publish a list of Mac OS X Shortcuts (pdf) pretty much says it all. Also, the program has a built-in update feature which has never worked. MAC-LTspice is 64bit code and runs at least as fast as the WIN version. The only drawback is the slow speed when you zoom-in or zoom-out. Mike told me that he can't improve this the next few months. I missed the tool-bar at the beginning. After I exercised the Fx function keys, I am quick with this Fx method too. Installing LTspice
#119416 Hi, I'm trying to update the models library from my LTspice in Mac and the program crashes and closes. I've tried deleting LTspice (Application folder -> LTspice -> Delete). I then download a new version of LTspice, install it, but the problem persists. I'm wondering if there are hidden files that I should delete in order to delete completely LTspice from my Mac. #119417 Hello Marcos, We had a discussion about the actual MAC-dmg-file. It seems to be corrupt. I wonder why it's still not fixed from ADI. A user has placed a previous version of the dmg-file on dropbox. The link is in this thread. Please try it and report whether it has worked. https://groups.io/g/LTspice/topic/72621561#119229 Helmut |

The problem is that the models seem to be old, because I still get my 10kHz crossover frequency as per my previous post. When I try to update the models, LTspice crashes. Do you think I should still download that version of LTspice contained in the link you've sent? The last version of LTspice for Mac from this week should install fine. However model update doesn't work. Thanks Marcos |
#119492 Marcos, I do not use the Mac version of LTspice. But I thought I read (several weeks ago, maybe many months ago) that the Mac version would not 'Update' correctly for a while. It might not have been fixed. So, you might be stuck with the models that it has in it when it is installed. It's disappointing that the Mac version 'takes back seat' to the PC version, but it has been like that for a long time. I think it MIGHT be possible to copy LTspice's library of models from a PC to a Mac, and that MIGHT be a way to bring them fully up to date even though the Mac's Update is 'broken'. Many of the models are text files. Hopefully they should work on either platform. But LTspice also has two types of encrypted models, and it's possible that one of those types (the binary ones) MIGHT not be the same in the Mac and PC versions. There is very little that we know about LTspice's binary models. Here is an experiment you might try. I don't know if the Mac version has the same capabilities, so I don't know if this works. On the Mac, tell LTspice to view the SPICE Netlist of your circuit. Then tell it to generate a Flattened Netlist (on the PC, right-click within the Netlist file window and that is one of the choices). Then move the Flattened Netlist file from the Mac to the PC. Once on the PC, you could compare that netlist with one generated on the PC from the same schematic. Or, open the flattened netlist from the Mac in LTspice on the PC and run a simulation there, and compare the results. After running a simulation of a netlist file, you can't plot waveforms by clicking on points in the schematic, but you can plot them if you know their names. This experiment might help you determine whether the 4kHz-versus-10kHz difference is due to the models, or the program itself. With a little 'detective' work, you might even figure out which model is different, and why. Andy |
#119496 Edited Hello, I just did a 'Model-Update' in MAC-LTspice. It downloaded all files of the power-ICs. This tooks a long time, but it successfully finished. I have MAC-LTspice version 'Mar 18 2020' on MAC-Catalina. I intentionally didn't update the program. Helmut |
#119499 So you can now specify which parts of LTspice to update? (I have not run Update in a long time.) Andy |
#119513 Hello Andy So you can now specify which parts of LTspice to update? (I have not runNo, it just forces to re-download all those library files. I don't know if they are modified in any way and needed updating, but I suspect someone playing with the installation script more than needed. The changelog mentions when a certain file has been modified, or not, and there were no mentions about any of those other files (the changelog would have had to gain a few MB worth of messages). If you're curious, backup your current installation, then update. -- Vlad ______________________ ltspicegoodies.ltwiki.org v2: quite universal analog/digital filter, power electronics, signal processing, easy to work with math functions, digital models, and rants. |
#119515 Edited Hello Andy, One cannot pecify which parts will be updated. I guess that somebody from the software team did a 'mistake' with the result that LTspice had to update all files belonging to the models from the folder 'Power'. Helmut |
#119517 Hi Andy, I'll try what you suggest. Helmut, I think the problem is related to the fact that I don't have a folder in the following location: /Users/marcosct/Library/Application Support/LTspice/ I've seen that you specify this folder in another post. I've also read in other forums that this is the path where the libraries are meant to be stored. Well, I don't have it. Also, I've uninstalled LTspice and re-installed it again, but the folder is still missing. I'm sure it has to be related to this. Cheers, Marcos |
#119518 I can find something similar if I go to Applications/LTspice, then right-click -> show package contents. However, I'm not sure if I should actually find the folder you are all talking about in /users/'user name'/Library/Application Support/LTspice |
#119521 Hello Marcos, This folder will be created, when you start LTspice the irst time. I guess it will be created again, if it's missing in a later run. Helmut |

#119595 Marcos, make sure you only delete the correct folder! In the PC version, the libraries are in two places. Ak 47 serial number lookup. One is in LTspice's program area, and you should never touch that. The other is in your user area. In MS-Windows, that area is 'DocumentsLTspiceXVII' (or 'My DocumentsLTspiceXVII', which is under the C:Users directory tree). THAT one can be deleted and LTspice will re-create it if you do. (Of course anything you previously added to it, would be lost. So don't delete it unless you absolutely must.) I'm assuming that the Mac version may have something similar, but with different names. Again, you should ascertain that you have the right one, before attempting to delete it. If you delete the one that is in LTspice's own program or data area, then it's gone for good, and you probably must uninstall and reinstall LTspice to get it back. #119611 Hello Marcos, > However, I'm not sure if I should actually find the folder you are all talking about in /users/'user name'/Library/Application Support/LTspice Start the Finder. Click on your user name on the left side. It will see a folder 'Library'. Step into this 'Library' -> Application Support -> LTspice I just renamed this folder 'LTspice' for a test and started LTspice. LTspice has immediately created a new folder 'LTspice' in this place. #119612 Hi Helmut, The folder neither was there nor was created when I started LTspice :( Marcos |
#119614 Hello Marcos, > I have MAC-LTspice version 'Mar 18 2020' on MAC-Catalina. Which version of LTspice have you installed? Ltspice -> About LTspice Helmut |
#119617 Hi Marcos, The Library folder is hidden by default in the Finder. To make it visible you need to open your user folder in Finder and then use the View -> Show View Options menu (or Cmd-J) to display the options for that directory, then turn on the Show Library Folder option in that dialog. You should now be able to navigate to the Library -> Application Support -> LTspice folder. HTH |
